"bottle service" by martha stewart weddings

so i have this idea that stemmed from a wedding with jonathan adler bud vase favors and martha stewart's "bottle service" idea.  what if you collected a bunch of random jars and vases, painted them white and filled each with a flower.  Then you could use the bright idea of a chalkboard sticker to label each vase with a guest name and table number.  Guests would pick up their "favor" and go to their table, which would be sans-center piece.  Once everyone is at the table, they group their flower/vase favors in the middle to form the centerpiece.

p.s. specialty bottles carries all sorts of jars and bottles for around 60 cents each

Talk about killing a lot of birds with one stone!  Sounds genius to me.

bright idea: chalkboard stickers

Just discovered that Michaels sells self-adhesive chalkboard sheets ($1.99 for 3 letter sized sheets).  Cut shapes out of them and apply to whatever you would like.  So many different uses for these!  Spice jars, stemless wine glasses, maybe even as labels for names/table number on your wedding favors.  My wheels are spinning....

i like the idea of this in a big volume of space, almost floor to ceiling, sort of way.  while i do LOVE color, the image shown here is a little too cinco-de-mayo for my taste in weddings.  i think it would be more reserved (and at the same time make more of a statement) if the vellum was all white or gradients in gray and white.  its simple, clean, super cheap, and like almost anything, really cool when there's a large number of them!

sorry its been awhile -- I've been busy getting engaged.  :-)  i'm holding off on the wedding blogs, magazines, you-name-it until after the cse... but there is always time for crafting and in a superb stroke of luck, i came across curbly.  holy lots of great DIY projects!  first up, one of these fun snuggly pillows in plum.  :-)

i don't know what it is but i'm on a public art kick right now.  candy chang took an abandoned building in new orleans, painted it with a bunch of chalkboard paint and stenciled the words "before i die i want to ____ "  she then left pieces of chalk for passerby's to fill in the blanks.  i love public art that is truly influenced by the public.

as you may have read over at k:designs, i entered a graphic design competition aimed to promote the use of cloth towels over paper towels.  i entered two variations of this design, one with a predictable brown and red color palette and this one (below) which makes me much more happy.  :-)  finalists are announced on March 14th, wish me luck!

The following is the 500 character description of my design....

"This faux bois pattern is a play on trees used to make paper towels.  This “tree” gets used repeatedly while paper towels are disposed of with every use.  The pattern naturally forms a heart and offers one thoughtful reminder: love your trees.  The simplicity of this message is consistent with the clean graphic style of the wood grain, creating a fresh cohesive look.  Not weighed down by facts and figures, this towel reminds us that being “green” isn’t complicated, it’s simple, clear and fun."
